Abongile is such a breath of fresh air! I’ve never photographed a bride so happy and full of playful energy as her. You cannot help but love her when you meet her as her smile brightens up any room and she is so warm and caring. Throughout their wedding, Abongile would catch Lamie’s attention and either give him a playful look or a giggle, just like a young school girl. She has that mischievous sparkle in her eye and Lamie is clearly smitten with his lovely wife. They make such a cute couple. Her bridesmaids looked like the rainbow in their beautiful colourful dresses. Lamie was so touched when their baby girl, Landa, walked down the aisle holding a board saying “Daddy, here comes your girl”. I will always remember this special day. I asked how they met and here is their story in Abongile’s own words.
“Our families have always been friends and we had met a few times before with very little or no conversation. All this time, he had been in love with me from afar. In late 2009, Lamie made a conscious decision to pursue me and try to convince me to be his wife. We had met at his cousin’s kitchen tea and again at her wedding. We became closer and our friendship grew deeper. A few months passed with us keeping in touch, and the excitement of a new relationship was starting to overwhelm us, till on the 20 March 2010, we decided to go on our first official date at the beachfront Esplanade. We just parked the car and sat and chatted for hours. It was then that he proposed and asked me to be his wife. As shocked as I was, I knew that I was in love with him and I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him, and the fact that had been writing me the most beautiful poems helped as well. From that day on we have been joined at the hip.
